About Opposing Elements: Featuring 2 artists from Greenwich, CT, this show will give you a new appreciation for everyday objects. Sculptor Donald Landsman uses sticks, twine, metal, found objects and more to create an amazing array of sculptures that challenge the imagination. His work ranges in size from carefully balanced, playful "Cat in the Hat" to a full size sculpture of a horse, featured on the front of the Pierce Ball Gallery property. "Horse with Blue Head" created through a series of carefully examined images and with a collection of sticks and metal, this life size 'horse' seems to come alive at night with a spot light to highlight its presence. "Yellow Horse" is another sticks and twine and metal sculpture that is posed grazing quietly in the gallery. "Fred Astaire" is a clever abstract welded steel sculpture that seems to want to dance.
Leslie Mueller’s semi abstract mixed media pieces transform simple elements into elegant art. “Leslie’s versatile subject matter is inspired by ordinary objects. Her innovative interpretation of these elements make her art subtle and extraordinary. I always enjoy seeing her new work.” said avid art collector, Sharon Clark. "This show features pieces that include everything from snake skin, coins, bicycle parts to chocolate molds, each element selected to create a composition that draws you in and begs you to examine every inch of it." said Elizabeth Ball, Director, Pierce Ball Gallery.
And this show is not only going to be an inspiration creatively, each artist will be donating a percentage of the proceeds of the sale of their artwork to Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontiéres (MFS). They deliver emergency medical assistance to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, malnutrition, natural disasters, or exclusion from health care in nearly 70 countries. An independent international humanitarian organization, MSF unites direct medical care with a commitment to bearing witness to the plight of the people it assists.
