This year’s Show is being held Thursday, June 18th, 6:30 pm at Mystic Aquarium & Institute for Exploration. A portion of the entry fees will be donated to the Marine Mammal and Sea Turtle Rescue Program at the Mystic Aquarium and Institute for Exploration!

Entries to the competition will be on display and judged at Agave in Hartford. The winner will receive $100 plus a case of the actual sauce with the victor’s label printed on them.
That’s not all… the winning design will also be placed on the vendor’s site and will receive royalties from all online purchases of that particular sauce.
The second & third prize winners will receive $50 dollars.

The Connecticut Art Directors Club is proud to present the 2009 Student Conference and Scholarship Competition for students in design, web, media, illustration and photography. This will be a fantastic opportunity for students to get some real-life perspective on creative careers. Karl will present “Designing a Design Career”, a real-world insight to graduating students, as well as tips and tools for success; Lee Moody, Business Development Manager for New England and Canada, Mohawk. Keynote address by Alexander Isley
Alexander is principal of Alexander Isley Inc., a multidisciplinary design consultancy with offices in Connecticut. His firm’s clients include the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Giorgio Armani, The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, MTV, Texaco and Scholastic. Isley is also a partner, with Dave Goldenberg, in The Dave and Alex Show, a brand development and marketing communication agency that lists AOL, PepsiCo, Nickelodeon and MasterCard among its clients. Prior to founding his own company, Isley was the senior designer at the influential design firm M&Co. and art director of Spy Magazine. His work is in the collections of the Smithsonian Institution, the Museum of Modern Art and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. He was an inaugural member of the ID 40, and has been elected to membership in the Alliance Graphique Internationale. Alex has taught at the School of Visual Arts and The Cooper Union, and has been a visiting lecturer at the Yale Graduate School of Art since 1996. He has written a design commentary column for the marketing website reveries.com and is a contributor to Folio magazine.
Afternoon Breakout Sessions
Learn about paper and printing with Lee Moody from Mohawk Papers, job hunting with Karl Heine from Creative Placement, plus an informal panel of recent graduates out working in their fields to share their experiences and answer questions.
And don’t forget the scholarship opportunities!
Three $500 scholarships (one each in design, illustration and photography) will be awarded to undergraduate students enrolled in an accredited CT program. Portfolios must be logged in by 9:30 am to be eligible for the scholarship review. Door prizes and great gifts will be raffled off throughout the day!

From Boston and points northeast:
Follow Route 90 West (Massachusetts Turnpike) to I-84 (exit 9).
Travel I-84 West and take exit 61 onto I-291 West.
Follow I-291 to exit 1 (Route 218) and turn left at the end of the ramp onto Route 218 West.
OR Travel I-84 West to exit 44 (Prospect Avenue). Turn right at the end of the ramp. At the next traffic light, take a left onto Prospect Avenue.
From Long Island:
Take the Throgs Neck Bridge to Hutchinson River Parkway and exit onto I-684 North.
Travel I-684 to I-84 East and follow into Connecticut. Take exit 44 and bear left at the stop sign. At the traffic light, turn left onto Prospect Avenue.
From New Jersey and points south:
Take the Tappan Zee Bridge East (I-287) to I-684 North to I-84 East.
Follow I-84 into Connecticut and take exit 44.
Bear left at the stop sign and then, at the traffic light, turn left onto Prospect Avenue.
From New York City:
Travel I-95 (Cross Bronx Expressway) to Hutchinson River Parkway and exit onto I-684 North.
Travel I-684 to I-84 East and follow into Connecticut. Take exit 44 and bear left at the stop sign.
At the traffic light, turn left onto Prospect Avenue.**
From Springfield, Massachusetts, and Vermont:
Travel I-91 South to exit 35B and turn right at the end of the ramp onto Route 218 West.
Directions from exit 35B, I-91, and from exit 1, I-291:
Travel Route 218 West approximately four miles, passing a major shopping center on the left, to the junction of Routes 218 and 189. Take a left onto Bloomfield Avenue (Route 189) and pro ceed to the University of Hartford entrance two miles on the left.
Directions from exit 44, I-84:
Follow Prospect Avenue 2.5 miles to its downhill end at the junction of Route 44.
Take a right onto Albany Avenue (Route 44), followed by a quick, sharp left onto Bloomfield Avenue (Route 189). The campus is a half-mile on the right.
